Strictly speaking, ‘Muslim Renaissance’, like ‘Christian Enlightenment’ is a contradiction in terms. The Renaissance was a rediscovery and celebration of Europe’s pagan heritage: given Islam’s limitless hostility towards paganism, a Muslim Renaissance is simply impossible.

You are partially right.  My question is: So many Christians came out of the blinkered biblical view which is as dangerous or more dangerous than the Koranic view.  Why it doesn’t happen with Muslims.  That is the reason why?

Deepak, this is a message for you and not a comment on this thread, so please feel free to delete this after you have read it. Can you make your webmaster make some slight technical changes to your site ? I am suggesting this for the safety of this site itself. Ask him if he can configure the settings so that any user posted links (to other sites, and videos) as well as administrator posted links open in a new window, so GreatHindu remains open. Also ask him if while doing this, the host website (the one whose link has been clicked on GreatHindu) can remain clueless about the origin of the click (otherwise every single link that one clicks knows from where it has come).

This is a good question, so I have taken some time to respond.

Although Christianity and Islam share many similarities given that both are intolerant monotheist missionary creeds, there are some fundamental differences which explain why Christians could break free and Muslims cannot.  Rather than list one after another, I’d prefer to provide two examples

    1) Prayer.

One of the pillars of Islam is its system of five daily prayers (Arabic: Salat).  This has the effect of reinforcing a Muslim’s religious identity five times a day – especially as the prayers are communal (that is to say, performed with other members of the Muslim community in public).

As far as I can tell, there is nothing similar in Christianity.  The Christian community meets once a week in Church, and that’s about it.  Thus, whilst a Christian’s religious identity is reaffirmed once a week, a Muslim’s is reinforced five times a day – i.e. 35 times a week.

Obviously, it will be much more difficult to break out of a faith that is affirmed five times a day than a faith that is affirmed once a week.

    2) Circumcision.

It’s a curious fact that Islam shares many practices with Judaism, whereas Christianity does not.  One of them – which has serious psychological consequences, is the practice of genital mutilation – a.k.a. circumcision.

Muslim children are ‘cut’ at a young age, without their consent.  The psychological damage of having one’s organ sliced at a young age should not be underestimated: it generates an inborn fear and blind obedience towards the powerful authority and a sense of emasculation.  For details on this horrific and cruel practice, I refer you to Professor Sami al-Deeb, a Christian Palestinian who has studied the subject in depth.  His website is:

    http://www.sami-aldeeb.com/

A good primer on the subject is:

    http://www.sami-aldeeb.com/articles/view.php?id=31

By emasculating its followers in this horrific manner, Islam effectively undermines their self-confidence and individuality.  This, in turn, makes them seek solace in the herd (i.e. the umma) and reduces the chances of independent thought, let alone rebellion against the faith – both of which require considerable self-confidence and a strong personality.

Note – these are just two factors.  There are numerous others.  To discuss them all would probably require a book.

A question to Mr Deepak Kamat, why this site and what are you trying to stop “an Indian reformation’ or a ” Hindu reformation”? In the above table lets assume is for hindus, where do you as a Hindu see a Hindu reformation. Just as you love your religious identity so do they. Whats so blatantly wrong about that?

‘Isn’t this a case of double standards?’

    @ “Shravanth”,

Please read my previous posts.  You seem ignorant.
I see truth in its face (Samasatti).  I have only pointed out the truth about Islam and Hinduism.
I am not a religious reformer.  I am a journalist who sees things as it is without any blinkers.

Some people here seems to not to have come across such morons from other cults who could pass any indecent comments towards Hinduism. We all might have heard one or the other time that Christians are white sheep and the rest are black. LOL!!! Can they be tolerant if we pass such comments in reverse that they are stupids? If not then why only cry of ‘Hindu double standards’? Call sticking head in the sand and thinking the world is not watching you.
